This male Red-spotted Purple has parts of his wings missing, probably due to a bird predator(s) that caught him in its bill.
This butterfly species might be much more palatable to birds than the Pipevine Swallowtail, which it may mimic.
Adult butterflies, such as this one, cannot repair their wing damage.
