It’s very unusual to see a “mud puddle convention” with both Tiger and Zebra Swallowtails in the Washington, D.C., Area.
Both Warren Steiner and I had never seen such a mixed convention before in decades of arthropod observing.
These male butterflies might have been obtaining salts from the soil.
These are common species in the Washington, D.C., Area.
